Data Warehousing: Planning and Design
January 22, 2014 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
Galen’s Data Warehousing Webcast will walk the participant through the planning and design phases required for standing up warehousing and reporting databases. Planning topics that will be discussed include defining reporting requirements, determining the sources of data, and identifying subsets of data types from the sources necessary to fulfill reporting requirements. The design phases include logically modeling the data types, picking appropriate architecture(s) and mapping the logical model to physical data model(s), designing an appropriate ETL (Extract-Transform-Load) dataflow for loading warehouse and reporting schemas, defining data retention requirements and purge criteria, and finally planning for necessary maintenance. Implementation will be touched upon if time permits.
