DECEMBER 2017

___

Solving for Today.
Preparing for Tomorrow.

As 2017 comes to a close and we look towards 2018, we took the opportunity to reflect on the past year and review the major happenings in the industry via a recent complimentary webinar. Instead of prognosticating what 2018 will hold, we offered practical initiatives that should be focal areas for healthcare delivery organizations in 2018. We compiled insights gleaned from our market research conducted through attending industry conferences, gathering healthcare executive perspectives, and observing what is occurring in practice, to distill the key areas of focus for 2018.

Speaking of healthcare executive perspectives, as part of our CHIME CIO interview series, we recently had the opportunity to sit down with Doug Dietzman, Executive Director, Great Lakes Health Connect and Brian D. Patty, VP, CMIO, Clinical Information Systems, Rush University Medical Center. With GLHC being a leader in the HIE space, Doug shares invaluable advice for maintaining sustainability as well as both demonstrating and measuring value delivered. In his interview, Dr. Patty offers candid guidance on the approach Rush takes to address physician burnout through clinical optimization, and elaborates on how the CMIO role has evolved to be the ‘glue person’ within the organization, acting as liaison between leadership, administration, clinicians, and IT.

As we have the opportunity to gather these invaluable healthcare executive perspectives, we continue to offer complimentary executive briefings on the topics of clinical data archival, and MEDITECH clinical optimization. Applying perceptions and learnings from our research, we harvest and package insights into these briefings, providing strategic navigation for areas critical to healthcare delivery organizations.

Our Newsletter also reports on:

  • Holiday volunteer activities.
  • Top considerations when setting up a flu clinic.
  • The capability of EHRs to support population health management.
  • Continuation of the #IAmGalen series.

I hope that you find this information helpful, and as always, we welcome your feedback.

Can EHRs Support Population Health?

EHRs have the ability to improve population health outcomes by efficiently collecting and storing data that can be shared across multiple healthcare organizations and leveraged for quality improvement and prevention exercises. However, a recent study suggests that EHRs do not yet have the necessary capabilities to support pop health and value-based care; only 25% of providers agreed EHRs have helped position their organizations to meet these demands.
